Program Overview
Head Start operates a FREE Federally Funded Pre-School program.
Head Start works closely with school districts in preparing children for kindergarten and to do well in school. Children can be dual-enrolled in both the Head Start program and the school district 4K, English Language Learner preschool or Early Childhood programs.
Head Start children receive free/reduced medical and dental care, healthy meals and snacks, transportation to and from the center, field trips and fourteen hours of classroom interaction time. This time stresses free choices, creative thinking skills, self-help skills, proper health and nutrition habits, multicultural experiences and socialization opportunities.
Head Start centers comply with strict state and federal regulations, providing a safe and appropriate indoor and outdoor environment, child-sized equipent, learning centers and well-trained, nuturing staff members.
Head Start's Parent Education/involvement focus is an important and positive influence on assisting many parents to complete their own education, to find jobs, to make lasting friends, to become more effective parents and in many cases to break out of the poverty cycle.
Head Start firmly believes parents are the child's first and most important teacher and we are partners in their child's education.
